GLOSSARY

WIND ENERGY

WIND REBATES

Cut-in Wind Speed: The wind speed at which the wind blades start to turn.

Starts Charging: The wind speed needed to turn wind blades fast enough to make power.

Rated Output: The amount of watts produced at a rated wind speed.

Rated Wind Speed: The speed at which a
certain amount of watts is produced.

Rotor Diameter: Is the distance between the wind blade tips or half of wind blade circle.

Annual kWh Output: The annual Energy produced by an AVERAGE wind speed.

Overspeed Braking: Methods used to slow or stop the generator in high winds.

Cost per Watt: The comparison cost to produce energy between different generator units.

Installed Weight: The weight of the generator at the top of the tower or utility type pole.

Grid-tie: An Inverter made to send the generator's energy on to the utility power grid.

Wind Inverter: Is used to pull power from the batteries and change it to 120V AC and feed the circuit breaker panel of your house.

Production Tax Credits: (PTC)
The U.S. Senate just voted overwhelmingly, 93 to 2, to approve legislation containing a one-year extension of the crucial wind energy pro-duction.
Tax Credit (PTC) thru December 31, 2009.  The bill, H.R. 6049, also would create a new invest-ment tax credit for purchases of small wind systems used to power homes, farms and small businesses.

Self-Generation Incentive Program: (SGIP)
As of January 1, 2008 the CPUC issued Deci- sion (D.) 08-04-049 granting in part purchase incentive for wind intallations at home and business through December 31, 2009 unless modified by further extention of the CPUC.

Feed-in Tariffs: (FIT) for Grid only.
The PUC allows your power to be purchased as a credit applied to your monthly usage.

Net-Metering: (N-M) for Grid only.
The PUC allows your power to be purchased at the same rate/credit as your monthly usage.

Performance Based Incentive: (PBI)
Based the rotor size and rated output of your wind generator.

Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)
Some PUC's offer these purchase agreements.

Personal Tax Incentives:
Apply on Federal tax return.

Property Tax Incentives:
Apply on State tax return.

Public Utility Commission: (PUC)
Each state has one: California is (CPUC).
